The information society and knowledge society

Technological development – Internet, mobile communications, broadband, satellite, microwave, etc. – is to produce significant changes in the economic and social structure, and the set of social relations. Information has become the promoter axis of social, economic and cultural changes. The rise of telecommunications has been a transformation of the technologies of information and communication, whose impact has affected all sectors of the economy and society.

The expansion of computer networks has made possible the globalization of exchanges and relations, to put in communication to broad sectors of citizens residing in distant geographical areas among themselves. National spaces have been superseded by the information technologies that have no borders: political, military and economic – especially financial-, social, business, information etc. are exchanged and are transmitted every day around the world, so that our life is conditional in each moment by what is happening to thousands of miles away. Any political or economic event that took place in a country can have a significant impact on economic activity in other Nations. Higher rates of interest in United States, for example, affects the price of money in Europe and, accordingly, to the Monetary liquidity of citizens, and therefore to their chances of consumption and welfare.

The information has contributed to the events that take place at the global, continental, or national level we are closest, and that the idea of the “global village” go making reality. Our vision of the world is becoming a new dimension above countries, communities and cities, the same thing that happens to the companies. We have a new social model, the “global society”, in which borders disappear in favor of the exchange of ideas, messages, products, services, and people.

Today, progress in the so-called information technology, covering equipment and computer applications and telecommunications, are having a great effect. In fact, says that we are in a new type of society called the information society and knowledge society, which is to replace the two previous socio-economic models, agrarian society and industrial society.
